How are you doing with your holiday preparations? We've been baking a little bit, gingerbread and cookies. But we're eating it just as fast. Sorry for any potential guests...(I have emergency cookies).
Christmas means time spent with your loved ones. You'll find us outdoors to catch some light in the blue hour every day, often on a kicksled. We have a low-ambitions Christmas.
But I think of all the children who dread the holidays because alcohol abuse and domestic violence increase at this time. I think of lonely children. The feeling of "togetherness" is heavy, but no one is as alone as alone at Christmas. There is also the pressure of baking, of decorating, of buying. I think children want time and security from parents more than gifts (even though a Hello Kitty computer is more wanted in this household).
We'll make something yummy to eat - I'll come back on that (more lighthearted) subject!

A low-ambitions, child-focussed christmas sounds the very best sort! today my daughter and i made some christmas cards together and she turned to me and told me very seriously that i was "doing really well mummy" and that we make "a good team" (she's two and a half!)... it was one of those moments that made me feel glad to be a mum!... the thought of children suffering, especially at this time of year, is unbearable. thanks for your blog with a heart, dear arctic mum! looking forward to your next foodie offering...:-)
Yes definitely child focussed..and seems that even more so now that I am a Grandma, to delight in watching those little ones faces and remembering sweetly times gone by....ho hum!

My children are grown up now, but I'm impatient to have them back home, to see my family gathered again. the simple joy of being all together again is my best gift!
I so agree with you... low ambitions, at this time of year are really the best. It is so much better to simplify, & really appreciate what we do have....the simple things! Children do not really need more. I love your photo of cookie baking.... perfect in its simplicity!
