Fighting Polar Night With Summer

What do we do every year when the dark embraces us, when we're tired in the morning, tired in the evening. When Polar Night has fastened it's grip, only providing a small opening of daylight every day.

This is what we do when living here feels heavy. And pale is an understatement (Christmas portraits - we just don't do them):

 - Planning next summer's vacation!

We're heading for ta-ta- Belgium in July! Never been there, exciting to go!

Am looking very forward to find myself in central Europe again, as I'm sure this is where my ancestors hang out before they started moving up here, crazy people. I like central Europe, I feel connected to it.

I certainly deserve a trip to central Europe in July.

But before we have Christmas. As you can see my town (and boats) are ready.

How are you all doing with the prep's?

P.s My giveaway. And have you seen Hana's shop.

Have a good week!

Completely Lost In France

Did I tell you how much I love France? The language. The food. The all.

Now my family is in love too: We're having a fantastic time on the coast of Bretagne, beautiful beaches and friendly people. Blog friend Stephanie sent us off to some great local places, merci!

Home exchange is perfect for us,I guess we will be doing it for all future holidays: car waiting at airport, a house for kids with beach toys and the babysitter's number. Chatty neigbours.

Now I just need to find out how we can come and live in France for a year or two. I should write a bestseller. The air here makes me dream (or maybe it's the Bordeaux)

So long for now, I have tons of moules frites to consume before leaving to the Arctic ( is that really where I live???)

Pimping The House For The Holiday

We're slowly getting our house ready to go on holiday: two weeks with family in Denmark, another two weeks on home exchange in Brittany!

I wonder if our French guests will like it here, our house and where we live? I hope they'll sleep through the midnight sun.

I know I will enjoy every minute in France. Just give me a pain au chocolat and I'm all yours. Important question: will there be any flea markets on my way? No holiday without.

Maybe the tenants in the bird house will come out and say hello to the Frenches too. So far we've only seen the father fly in and out.

I'll be here posting in between.

See you soon!

Home Exchange for the Summer

We're (read: me) planning next summer's holiday, and hopefully a dream will come true: Home Exchange. I've wanted to do it for years, and finally we have the space.

The idea is appealing: You arrive to a house with toys (yay!), bicycles, bunkbed and perhaps a highchair. You get to explore an area outside the tourist tracks.

Everything based on trust. Isn't that wonderful?

I hope a family wants to come to the Arctic and our home. We have spectacular nature, 24/7 daylight, great for kids and a vibrant city. I guess I have to enlighten the fact that 3 degrees celsius in July does happen...but not often!

We hope to end up in the southwest of France, an area I know from pre-family times. But maybe we'll be surprised and go somewhere else. What do you reckon, will we make it?
